Also, ten selected prizes were awarded.
The “Cultural Heritage Tours of Macao Design Competition” was organized to coordinate with the “2004 Macao Cultural Heritage Preservation Year”. The competition was aimed at encouraging local residents to design a creative heritage route which they think is the most beautiful and possess the richest elements. The activity has received over a hundred projects with rich content, diversified design, and distinguish features. Each work is unique with different themes, such as churches, temples, cultural heritage in Taipa and Coloane, military, elderly people, romance, bicycle, and old feelings.
The competition invited Mr. Wong Jao Sun, Chairman of the Macao Historic Monuments Association, Ms. Fanny Vong, President of the Institute for Tourism Studies, Mr. Kwok-Leung Kam, senior media worker in Hong Kong, Ms. Wu Wai Fong, Chairman of the Macao Tour Guide Association, and Mr. Steven Chan, Head of the Institute’s Cultural Heritage Department, to grade the works. The works were graded according to their creativity, content, knowledge and overall presentation. Most of the works have adapted the 128 monuments, buildings, ensembles, and sites on the conservation list – 52 Monuments, 44 Buildings of Architectural Interest, 11 Classified Ensembles and 21 Classified Sites.
The “Guia Military Cultural Heritage Route” designed by Wong Wai Pang and Wong Wai Hap focused mainly on the Guia Hill, the highest hill on Macao peninsular. Their work gave a detailed description of the lighthouse, church, air-raid shelter, fortress and military restricted area located on the Guia Hill and linked them into a cultural heritage route. Vong Vai Ieng and Pun Yan Wing’s “Travelling from the Past to the Present (for the elders)” was designed for the older generation and includes memorials or places such as teahouse, garden, temple and monumental tablet, reflecting the idleness of the small city. Loi Kai Chi’s “Island Village Cultural Tour” included detailed history of monuments in Taipa and Coloane, such as fortress, church and temple, giving people the amorous feelings of a fishing village.
The ten selected prizes include Lai Pan Tai’s “Macao Cultural Heritage Tour”; Tong Hin Kit, Tong Hin Weng and Chan Hou Tong’s “Coloane Cultural Heritage Tour”; Mok Keng Tai’s “Search for the Beauty of Old City Area”; Kok Cheng I and Pui Sin Meng’s Macao Cultural Heritage “Extraordinary Tour”; Lei In San’s “Miracle Tour”; Sam Vai Lam’s “The Mood of Macao Residents”; Lao Cheuk Chi, Chang Ut Wa and Chong Ka Ka’s “Macao Cultural Heritage Guide”, Lee Ming San, Lam Lai Heng and Chan Yuen Yee’s “Cultural Art Tour”; Ho Chi Kong and Chan Kam Lun’s Macao Cultural Heritage Tour”; Ma Oi Nang, Lei Sao Si and Ng Pou Pou’s “School Cultural Heritage Tour”.
